Gaming

Sony announced a Playstation-event that will take place on the 20th of February in New York. More details about the event were not given, but according to Sony people will 'see the future'. Sources have reported to the Wall Street Journal that it concerns the Playstation 4.

This announcement made me curious about the gaming culture worldwide. Did you know for example that the average age of a gamer is, not like I expected, 30 years?

Even though videogames are not only being played by younger people, there seems to be a huge difference in the worldwide gaming culture.

The most popular known ways to play videogames these days are on a console, like the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, or on your computer. In recent years, since the introduction of the smartphone, mobile games have become increasingly popular every year. According to the latest report by Nielsen, 64% of smartphone users who downloaded an app in the past 30 days have downloaded a game.

Asia vs. The World

There seems to be a huge cultural difference within playing video games in Asia, especially in Japan,  and in the rest of the world. Speaking out of my own experience and having met some Asian people in my life, playing video games might be Asian favorite activity to past the time with.

In the U.S. every person spends about 142 per year on gaming. While in Europe this is a little less. There are no figures to be found in Japan but as I am sure, Asian people spent a lot more time spending video games.

Even though it is hard to find any proof in the form of figures, there is a huge cultural difference within playing videogames in Asia and the rest of the world.
